People who go there are almost day trip, but you had better stay a day if you can it, and you should stay there all day. Machu Picchu is not crowded after 3p.m, so it is a good unknown spot.
The second, the area of it is about 13 km the square, and stone buildings are about 200. Machu Picchu still has many mysteries. That has not been solved yet. By the way, the reason why Machu Picchu locates such as high and cliff place, the most proper place in the sun observation, and can recognize the summer solstice and the winter solstice.
